i’ve been absorbed with reading, but at the same time, i’ve been making sewing progress as well.
using the pants pattern that i altered to fit at the end of last year, i made two pairs of pants for the spring/summer seasons. straight leg, with a comfortable amount of ease. back with darts to shape, but no pockets. front pockets, yes. hand sewn buttonholes.
i started hand sewing the buttonholes out of necessity when i found that my sewing machine wouldn’t make it right, but now, i have to admit i enjoy that step the most. machines are certainly useful, but human hands aren’t any less so!
next up is an apron. though i made one last year, a single apron just isn’t enough in terms of laundry. i’m in the process of cutting the parts for a second one so i have another to switch to while the other one is hanging to dry.
読書に夢中だけれど、それと並行にソーイングも進めていました。
年末に直したズボンのパターンを使って、春夏用ズボンを二本縫いました。ストレートレッグで程よいゆとり。後ろはダーツ有りで、ポケットなし。前ポケットは有り。ボタンホールは手縫いです。
ミシンのボタンホールの機能の不具合から手縫いで作るようになったのですが、意外にこれが一番楽しい工程に感じるようになっています。機械は便利だけど、人間の手だって負けてません！
次に作るのはエプロン。去年一枚作ったのですが、それだけではなかなか洗濯のタイミングに困るので、洗い替え用の2枚目を作ろうと生地を裁断しています。
