i’m currently remaking one of the more popular items from my shop– berries & leaves needle book.  while the design itself is simple, stitching it takes more effort than it may look.

like the fact that the combination of small motifs + fine lines makes it harder to hide the beginnings and ends of the threads…

and that the tiny leaves are outlined with one strand split stitch…

also that there’s lots of starting and stopping involved with the scattered motifs to avoid carrying threads across the back.  even the thread for the berries are wound on the stem threads so the connections don’t show to the front.

always a test of patience and concentration, these.

一見シンプルに見えますがこのデザイン、意外と手がかかるのです。

小さな柄・細い線の組み合わせは、糸の刺し始めや終わりが隠しにくいとか...

葉っぱの輪郭線を一本取りのスプリットステッチで下刺しすることとか...

飛んでいる模様だから、表に糸の運びが響かないよう糸を始めたり止めたりするのが多いとか。ベリーも真っすぐつなげるのではなくて、茎に絡めながら刺すとか。

毎度丁寧に作業しています。

  1. I never would have thought those delicate little stitches were such a bother. They are so delicate. One does love to look at them no wonder they were popular.
