To Mt. Mitsumine

mitsumine 1 mitsumine 2 mitsumine 3 mitsumine 4 futase dam

last month, i turned 38.
to celebrate, i decided a touring trip farther afield than usual was in order… which was a rather convenient excuse for heading out on a beautiful, summer-like day in may.

on this trip, i headed to mount mitsumine in oku-chichibu to see futase dam and mitsumine shrine.  the forests, now a deeper shade of green, have now fully filled in, and though the forecast was for mid-summer temperatures, the mountain air was still cool and refreshing.  on the trip out, i encountered wild monkeys– actually saw them this time!– while driving through one of the passes, and once down on the chichibu side, had an impromptu companion motorbiker who was going in the same direction.

futase dam, unfortunately, was undergoing construction, so i wasn’t able to see it in action, but i was able to drive across the top of it to reach the shrine.  at an altitude of 1102m, the view from the shrine was stunning and the colorful shrine equally so.

since i only had limited time, i didn’t get to see everything there, but that just means i’ll have to go back again to see the rest!
