Inspiration in a Box

embroidering on colored fabrics.  that’s one of the things i want to try more of in the coming year.  i’ve mainly worked with natural or off-white linen up until this point– ‘safe’ options, since the neutral tones don’t interfere with the thread color combinations. but as they tend to end up with a similar feel, i decided it’s time to explore more colorful alternatives.

brown is not the most exciting option, but it’s what i had on hand for this project. call it a cautious start. but with what color to stitch? the answer was right in front of me– and i was snacking on them.

apollos.

the strawberry pink and milk chocolate brown was just the combination for something pretty, but not-too-sweet.  so i chose two shades of subdued pinks, for an antique rose on a wooden panel sort of look.  worked well here, i think.

perhaps another trip to the grocery store may be in order– for the sake of research, of course!  because sometimes, ideas can be found in the unlikeliest of places.
