Field Trip

ogose1 ogose2 ogose3 ogose4 ogose5

my son had a field trip last weekend, so i decided to take one of my own. this time, i rode out to kuroyama santaki— three waterfalls of kuroyama– in ogose. the waterfalls are a short hike into the woods along a path with shops so quaint that for a moment, i wondered if i had time-slipped a few decades.

the water in the brook was amazingly clear and the rocky banks lush with a variety of ferns, some of which are designated as ‘natural treasures’ and protected by the prefecture. fall colors were just beginning to show– just ginkgo for now, with hints of other colors to come.

saitama is reputed to be a decidedly ‘uncool’ prefecture, but i’m discovering with every trip i take that designation is quite unfair. there are so many beautiful, worthwhile spots see– and i still have more places on my ‘to visit’ list.

so. where to next?
